One Billion Rising 2020

Like every year, One Billion Rising (OBR) was celebrated on 14th February 2020 as well. OBR is the global movement initiated by Eve Ensler in 2012 in reference to the statistical data that shows 1 in every 3 women face violence in their lifetime, which comprise of 1 billion of population around the world. People from all over the world come out on the street to dance, sing and celebrate this day to express the message and to show solidarity against violence against women.

This year as well CSOs in Nepal celebrated this day in lead of Sangat Nepal. The event was organized at Jawalakhel in front of the zoo. The event attracted more than 200 people. The event was hosted by Youth from Mitini Nepal. The program was started by amazing whistling women to engage all the participants in the beginning. Then the program was followed by different performances. Chanting slogans by the team from NMES, Sabhyata Nepal and Radha Poudel Foundation related to women rights. Similarly dance performances from Ujyalo Foundation, NMES, SAATHI and Mitina Nepal. These performances had their own unique presentation on self care, queer love and power of girls. Poem recitation on by Homenet Nepal was also performed.  Apart from fun, the event also focused on being informant. Executive Director of Mitini Nepal, Sarita KC shared a speech on Diversity and Sexuality. Likewise, Information on Obstetric Right and Property Rights of women was shared through act by the team from Young Midwifery and NMBS respectively. The program ended with the dance performances from NMES in OBR song in which every participant danced with joy and happiness.The program in overall was entertaining and informant as well. Every year CSOs of Nepal come up with various creative ideas to present and celebrate this day. Sangat Nepal taking the lead for this program has done a wonderful job. This day brings together all the organizations and people fighting for the cause and each year the voice gets stronger and stronger.
